EVENT RULES

Below are the specific rules for this event and a few points that we would like to draw your attention to in order to help the tournament run smoothly and everyone come away having had a good experience.

APPEARANCE & JUDO-GI

Please note that at this event only white judo suits should be worn.  Please note, if you arrive in a blue gi at our 2021 event you will be refused entry and your entry fee will be non-refundable.

  • Girls should wear a plain white, round necked T-shirt under their judo jackets

  • Boys should not wear a T-shirt or top under their judo jacket

  • Long hair should be tied back with a soft hair band (no metal or hard hair bands should be worn)

  • Finger nails and toe nails should be short and clean

  • All players who win an award must wear a white judo-gi on the rostrum and the same T-Shirt rules apply for the rostrum

  • Youngsters will wear either a white or blue belt when they are competing (the belts will be provided on the day)

COMPETITION RULES

The following techniques will not be allowed in any of the categories;

  • Sacrificial techniques (throws where you fall to your own back in order to throw your opponent)

  • Throws done from the knees such as dropping shoulder throw (one knee or two)

  • Any throw that looks like Kubi Nage (neck throw)

  • Maki Komi (any winding technique)

However, as this is a developmental event, Referees will not issue penalties for initial infringements but will educate our young competitors and explain the rules as they go.  Only if they feel there is a real need will they be issuing penalties.

COACHING

We would ask that you do not coach the youngsters taking part and that you offer general encouragement only. We would encourage spectator involvement as this creates a good atmosphere, but not specific matside coaching at this level of event.  We want this to be a friendly yet competitive event, where the children come first.

GOLDEN SCORE

Where a judo contest is a draw at the end of normal time there is a further period of contest time added called Golden Score, where the frst throw or hold will win the contest immediately.  For this event that period of Golden Score will be limited to 1 minute and if there is still no score at the end of that period the referee will announce the winner based on the number of attacks and work-rate of the players during the whole contest.

CONTEST TIMES

As this is a developmental event, contest times will be 2 minutes for all age groups.

SMOKING

Smoking is not allowed anywhere on the school site.  If you wish to smoke you will need to go right outside of the school premises.
