INTRODUCTION

This is a pathway event designed for those new and relatively new to judo competition and is organised by the Kent Schools Judo Academy.  Our aim is to create an enjoyable, local event with a big event feel in order to inspire youngsters to take part in more judo tournaments as they grow in confidence and ability.

We have a great group of volunteers who work with us to make this event a huge success, but we would ask everyone to remember that they are all volunteers and that sometimes their own chidren may even be taking part in the event, which means that they may want to watch some of the action themselves at some points during the day.

WHEN YOU ARRIVE

  • Go to the Booking-In Table near the entrance to the canteen area

  • Take your Entry Card to the Weigh-In desk so we can check your entered weight and make sure you are still in the correct Group

  • Make sure we write your confirmed Group number on your Entry Card and hand it back to you in a lanyard for you to wear

  • Please make sure you keep your lanyard with you as you will need this later

  • Wait for your Group to be called

  • When your Group is called, go to the mat and give your lanyard to the Table Officials

  • The Table Officials will hand back your lanyard afterwards as you will need it for the award ceremony at the end of the day

DURING THE DAY

We want everyone to have an enjoyable and exciting day and to help with that we have arranged for a small tuck shop to be set up in the canteen area to keep everyone fed and watered throughout the event and act as an overspill area in the case hall is very busy.  The tuck shop will be selling teas coffees, cold drinks and light snacks such as hot dogs and chocolate bars.

Also we will have the following available to keep minds occupied while they wait for their Groups to be called.

  • a colouring-in competition with a small prize for the best one

  • a word search challenge (just for fun)

  • a stand selling the fantastic judo book '50 Throws and Holds' for just £6.99

AWARD PRESENTATIONS

All presentations will all take place after the last contests have finished.  It is important that competitors hold onto their lanyard as these will be required at the end of the day.  We aim to start the presentations around 15:30 and be finished around 16:00.

Once the last contests are finished we will lay out markers for each Group on the mats and will ask the all winners to sit in a line behind the marker for the Group they were in.  They will need to line up in the following order; Bronze, Bronze. Gold, Silver.  They will be called forward in that order and will hand their lanyard into an Official just before they get their award, who will check they are coming up for the correct Group.

We are very pleased to confirm that all the awards will be presented by World, Commonwealth, European and British Masters, medallist, Caz Rawlngs.

THE CONTEST GROUPS

We do our best to allocate everyone into a Group where everyone is of a similar, size, weight and experience.  However, this may not always be possible and so we ask you to keep this in mind when you see the Group your child is in.

Sometimes it may not be immediately obvious why they are in a particular Group, but rest assured we will have done our best to make sure it’s the best one for them and we will have considered all of the options and placed each youngster into the Group where we feel they most comfortably fit in order for them to have a really positive experience at the tournament.  This event also attracts clubs that may have a different Grading structure, and youngsters may obtain different coloured belts at different times.  This is also taken into account when allocating Groups.

PHOTOGRAPHY

Appropriate photographic / video equipment is permitted at this event provided you agree to abide by general safeguarding principals.  Should a request be made for you to stop taking photographs or videos, you must respect the wishes of those making the request.  By taking part in this event you are also agreeing to the use of any official photographs or videos taken being used on our website and social media sites in order to publicise this and future events.  If there is a child who cannot appear on websites or social media sites for safeguarding reasons please advise us beforehand.

IMPORTANT - SMOKING ON SITE
As the Greenacre Academy is an educational establishment, smoking is not allowed anywhere on site.  If you wish to smoke then you will need to be outside of the school premises, including the car parks.  The school has extensive CCTV coverage and there will be school caretaking staff on duty during the day, so we would ask that you help us by keeping to this rule.
